Each day we are forced to make decisions about which dogs we will accept into our program, thus giving them a second chance, knowing that those we turn away may very well not see another sunrise. Our ideal is to base those decisions on the temperament and overall health of the dog — will he make a good companion for some lucky family.

Sometimes, one of these wonderful dogs needs a little extra help — they have conditions that are curable or treatable, but expensive. Treatment for heartworms, surgery to repair the damage from a car accident or from being abused by a prior owner, or other such medical issues can cost hundreds of dollars.

It breaks our heart when we have to turn down a dog, who would be a companion, a friend, a member of a family, solely because we don’t have the funds available for treatment, even though we know that with a little extra money he or she could be treated. It should break your heart, too.

Nothing from this fund will be used for routine expenses, such as vaccinations, spay/neuter, treatment of minor illnesses or microchipping.
